CHANDIGARH: In a face saving atttempt, Punjab Government Saturday decided to “ hold in abeyance” the decision to declare Saini Community as a Backward Class. Saini community had objected the government decision to declare tham backward class.
“The notification issued earlier in this regard would not come into effect till the matter is examined and considered in its entirety. A final decision would be taken only after taking into consideration the views of a wide spectrum of the members of the community, fully respecting their sentiments,” said Mr. Harcharan Bains, Media Advisor to Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal.
The government’s decision comes in the wake of several delegations from the community calling the Chief Minister to seek a review of the government’s earlier decision, said Mr. Bains.
The Chief Minister had already given an assurance that the state government had no intention of forcing any decision on the community against their will.
